[English ver.] "Patent Search Arcade Battle" at PIFC Japan 2019

※※This Post is translation. →  Original Article (in Japanese) . ※

Last week, the 「Patent Information Fair and Conference 2019」was held.

E-patent's "Patent Search Arcade Battle" booth was just announced this morning,

「果たし状」(Japanese "Hatashi-Jo")= Letter of Challenge

but we are grateful that a lot of people came to visit!

(The image below was taken from a visitor’s social media account)

Today's search theme was

"Technology that Uses Drones to Guide the Ranch Cattle and Sheep, and Eliminate Harmful Animals"
The database used was J-PlatPat.
The investigation target was Japanese patents and practical models

It is an easy to understand and interesting theme
but unfortunately, only 2 persons were able to arrive at something.

Since we've already gone through the trouble? while looking back at the J-PlatPat arcade battle with this material,
we're thinking of adding Web search and Espacenet as well.

It might be a little long . . . but go ahead to the “continuation.”

■in J-PlatPat ※Not a complete recreation. Just an impression of the search.

Won in rock paper scissors and made the first move★

For now. . . .

Oh . . . zero results.

This is the point of the first move.
"Might or might not get a lot of search hits" but
we tried searching with the pre-condition "if anything, there will be a lot of search hits (noise will also increase)

The search item is a “summary/quote.”
→ In J-PlatPat, it's not possible to combine "summary + claim."
→ We selected "summary" which would have less noise and number of results.

Not aviation, but rather "flying vehicle", "flying object".
→ If it were "aviation", there could possibly have been more noise, so we intentionally used a longer string.

Second move.

The point of the second move
① Summary= drone × full text=livestock farming → it will gather drones.

② Full text= drone× summary=livestock farming → it will gather livestock technology results.

In truth, we thought that "It might be fine whichever it has a tendency towards",
but temporarily brought it closer towards "drone technology"

Another thing. . . in this phase,
① If you incline it towards drones
-> The possibility of drone classifications you can find will go ↑UP → it will be easier to find drone-related words.

② If you incline it towards Livestock Technology
→ The possibility of agricultural/ livestock related categories will go UP → it will be easier to search for agricultural and livestock related words
・・・this kind of development can be expected.

Personally, it seemed that I could think of words related to agriculture and livestock at the top of my head, so I went with ① drone.

※Agriculture and livestock terms = my parents are farmers so I’m fairly well-acquainted★ There was always a “Japan Agricultural Newspaper” at home. (lol)

For that reason, I inclined it towards “drone side” once . . .
Select from the category code ranking

It seemed like the search results were few, so I used a wide category.

The point of the third move
J-PlatPat automatically “Performs hierarchical search of classification”
→ When you input B64C39/00, it searches B64C39/?

To search for republications (though not quite satisfactorily)
→ In order to be able to get a lot of hits, I selected "IPC" this time.
→ Since republished patent = international reissuance, I wondered if there might be data that hasn't been given FI. (Although this might have been overthinking on my part)

Also, if I look at the search hits,
I could pick up keywords like "unmanned aircraft" or "unmanned aerial vehicle".
Since there weren't a lot of publications found in "Search Arcade Battle"
I tried changing it here to "Drone for agriculture use" but. . .

Since I can calmly search today,
I'll try continuing the search like this using "livestock farming use"!

The fourth move
This time, i'll use full text for the "Drone-related Terms" gathered so far.
With the "agriculture and livestock related terms" as the summary/quotation, it will incline towards agriculture.
I also added the "harmful animal" that was asked at first.

There it is!
It's about harmful animals . . . but is this it. (特開2018-68221)

I’ll make go a little further with “agriculture and livestock”
The fifth move
With both key words as "full text", the IPC=A01K "livestock".

I wonder about this. (特開2018-007677)
Methods for guiding a target object and uav

There was nothing for “ranch animal” but
this is something where the drone guides a pet and brings it on a walk. How relaxing.

This is it for J-PlatPat for now. (⌒∇⌒)

By using the above format, the search results can also be summarized.

■Web Search (+ research themes I’ve heard and thought about)

Well then, for this search theme which is,
“Technology that Uses Drones to Guide the Ranch Cattles and Sheep, and Eliminate Harmful Animals”

The scenery that comes to mind that's also at the beginning of this article is this.

It doesn’t feel like it’s in Japan, right?

If you search it in Japanese、
There’s “still a little curious impression” or “Like Hokkaido”

If you search it in English. . .

The drone's best buy, or thesis papers will come up.
It seems that there is even individual authentication by face or recognition at night using infrared

Amazing!I got the feeling that it was practical.

Which is why

■Espacenet(Beta)

I input the above search words.
https://worldwide.espacenet.com/beta/

Like this.

If you type it in the command prompt, it will become the query below.
(nftxt = "cattle" OR nftxt = "sheep" OR nftxt = "cow") AND (nftxt = "drone" OR nftxt = "UAV") AND (nftxt = "herding" OR nftxt = "count" OR nftxt = "check")

Just as I thought, there are various things that would pop up if it's abroad but,
This is where the drawings are intuitively easy to understand. .
Unmanned livestock monitoring system and methods of use (WO2017127188)

If you search calmly at your own seat, and search the foreign Web, a lot of different suggestions will appear . . . (forced smile).

This has been reaaaaaally long but
this ends the recap of the "Patent Search Arcade Battle"
Thanks so much for your time ★
